Maverik's "Bad Boy" is actually quite "good"
September 5, 2013
The Bad Boy is a great deal. Pricing the components separately (shaft, head, mesh, shooters), you'd end up paying about double (or more) for an intro stick. The head is flexible enough to handle face-off duties and stiff enough to get after loose balls. It's also tight enough in the throat/channel to keep the ball in, while also being wide enough up top to make passing easier. The shaft takes its fair share of abuse, but then again if you were to ding it up with excessive rusty gate checks (or worse), the entire thing is easy to replace. The mesh is this handle's downfall, in my view. It's soft (and I mean really soft), so it does not hold shape well. It also lacks any coating to keep the mesh reasonably "normal" in wet conditions (even early morning games with dew on the ground will soak the mesh). This means the pocket gets out of shape pretty easily, which leads to inconsistencies in shooting and passing (which is worse for the new guys). Overall, 4 stars: two for price, one for shaft, one for head. If the mesh were better, this would be a no-brainer 5 star stick for beginners.
Pros:Price--solid equipment for new players at a steep discount. Shaft--takes the abuse required Head--tough but flexible
Cons:Mesh--too soft, too easily soaked, too easy to lose shape.
