Lacrosse Helmets
Are some brands
certified and others not? Many
people have heard that certain brands are not certified or adequate to be on
the field….this is a myth. Riddell,
Warrior, Brine, and Cascade are all legal to play with so you can expel that
from your decision. You should, however,
look at who has done it for the longest and who has done it the best. Cascade has with stood the test of time and
is always the first recommendation at South Swell. Every helmet requires
the NOCSAE symbol on it and every helmet we sell does. You might have a
little trouble if you wear your old street hockey helmet out there though.
Helmets are
expensive, should I just buy a cheap one? Helmets are like most everything
else in lacrosse, if you spend a little
more now you will end up saving money in the long run. The Cascade CPX and the Cascade Pro 7 are
both one size fits all which means, in theory, you should never need to buy
another helmet. The Cascade CLH2 retails
at $104.99 but comes as a specific size so if you are not done growing you will
be back in for another $100 purchase in the next year or 2.
What exactly am I
paying for when I spend $100 dollars more on a helmet? The first thing is the adjustability of
the helmet which is almost worth the cost right there. The added features include better vision and
a little less weight. In the case of the
Pro 7 you do get the latest in helmet technology and perhaps the finest helmet
on the market.
Is the CLH2 just as safe as the CPX or Pro 7? Yes, all the helmets are very safe but
lacrosse is a collision sport and concussions are always a possibility. The Pro 7 does use the latest in concussion
technology as well.
Will the Pro 7 or CPX
fit my youth player? No, not
necessarily but the CS is a miniature version and is a great helmet for youth
players. It is adjustable and should
work through about 6th grade unless the player has a large head.
How do I know what
size to get? Measure the
circumference of the head and check our sizing chart…that should clear
everything up for you.
Is every lacrosse
helmet customizable? Yes, but you
need to allow about 4 days manufacturing time plus shipping from Liverpool NY
or your preferred helmet companies location.
Hopefully this clears some things up for you but as usual,
give us a call at 1(888)southswell with any more specific questions.
